The Life Of A Scientist

In Te Ngahere we have been doing Experiments for our Science Fair. My group and I decided to make our science experiment based on eyesight so we came up with the title do Different Fonts Affect Your Eyesight. I found doing this experiment very hard. We had a very short amount of time to finish our experiment we started making our boards late and we had a 2 week holiday. It took about 1 hour 40 minutes to test two people and it was the fact that we had a short amount of time to finish so it put pressure on my group and I. I learnt a lot about eyesight and memory.  For example how many words you can read in a minute a average reader can read 100 words in a minutes and a good reader can read 200 words in a minute. The hoe that I was using through Science fair was Kaha and Tu Maia because it got really frustrating so I had to pick up my hoe of Kaha and Tu Maia and keep working

Do you do Science Fair at your school?

Scientific Method

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the Scientific Method We were learning about the Scientific method so it can help us with our science project. We had to read a text on a site called Ducksters and find the steps in that text and write them on one of these three things Canva, Easily or Google Drawings. I went for the simplest one Google Drawing we had to try and make it creative. The thing that I found challenging about this was trying to look for pictures to go with my steps and the thing that I found easy was to find the steps.

Have you learnt about the Scientific Method?

P.E Skills

Every week on Mondays and Thursdays we have been doing P.E rotations. For P.E there was four different activates those four activates were Netball, Soccer, Touch and skills. Skills were all of those things just combined in to one. In my opinion I thought that Netball was the best because we did lots of running and lots of balancing and I love running. I learned that Netball is much harder than it looks and what I didn't know was all of the rules to Netball wich made it hard for me to play Netball but now I know all the rules so now I have a better understanding of the Netball rules.

Do you know how to play Netball?

My Sea Life

Te Ngahere has been learning how to use different tools in Google drawing and different ways to use them to make more creative DLO’s. The purpose of this challenge was to help us use google drawing confidently and efficiently to create our own images and graphics. What we did on this challenge was to try and make animals that are related to the ocean using shapes and arrows I made lots of things like Jellyfish, fish, kina a stingray and my most favorite one Patrick. I will use this to make better blog post’s in the future. The thing that I found easy about doing my DLO was trying to think about the things I could make using shapes and arrows and the thing I found hard was to make the thing I wanted to make because it was very noise in the classroom.

Have you ever made anything using shapes and arrows?

Technology

May 5th Tuesday the year sevens and eights went to Technology. The year 8’s did wood works in Mr Es class and the year 7’s were working with Whaea Dot next door they were going to be cooking. Before we did anything Mr E was seeing how well we knew the rules in the workshop one of the rules were whenever you use one of the power tool’s always wear gloves and glasses. When we finished answering the rules we were allowed to try out  the power tools and other tools. We had fun using the power tools I made a little hand held knife. When it was morning tea we all played touch and after touch we went back to class and we had to have a idea on what we were going to make, Mr E said lets make a waka we all agreed to that idea. So Mr E showed a example on how to make the waka. The waka was made out of wood we only started a little bit of the waka but we will continue with it next week.

Have you gone to technology before?

Direction failure

In Te Ngahere our teachers wanted us to see how well we listen. So our teachers gave us a piece of paper with instructions. The first instruction was to read everything carefully before doing anything. There were 23 instructions and I decided to to finish the test fast because there was only a 4 minute timer. When the 4 minute timer was up we had to stop and come to the mat when we came down to the mat our teacher was a asking us questions like did you follow the instructions properly? After the teacher said a few other questions then the teacher said in front of the hole class the teacher said we all failed because we didn't listen to the instructions properly the question was read everything carefully before doing anything the words I didn't listen to were read everything carefully before doing anything. I found it difficult to work with a 4 minute timer.

Google Hack

Te Ngahere has been learning about key words so it could help us with not only our writing but also with what we search on Google. In order for us to learn about this we had to make a copy of the teachers Smart Surfing doc and file it under cybersmart and fill out with our answers. One of them said to write a question and then write it in key words my question was what do wetas eat? An my key word question was weta diet? It was really helpful because it came up with the main thing that I was looking for which was what do weta eat except in key words. For example if you search something about trees it will pull up nearly all the things about spiders. The hardest thing for me was trying to find the correct links on Google. Did you learn anything from this post?

Sugar Rush

This week we got invited to Green’s. Green’s is an Indian restaurant that the whole class got invited to. We went to Green’s because it was my classmates birthday his name is Shivam and he turned ten. When we arrived at Green’s we sat down on a table each and there were four people at each table we patiently waited for our food every already knew that we were going to eat curry and rice but they gave us Coca Cola, Sprite and garlic naan. When I saw the food I knew it would taste really good and boy it did I demolished the food of my plate. After I finished my meal I felt like I was going to explode after the tables were packed down there was a huge surprise it was a hole trolly full of easter eggs I felt like it was my birthday. Shivams parents and the chefs gave us all one easter egg each we had to wait till we got home to eat them.

Would you eat a Freddo Egg or a Pineapple Lump Egg?

The Amazing life Of A Food web

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Food Webs. A food web is showing the different food chains and what the predators are to other animals for example Stoat’s eat Kiwi or the Kwi eggs which makes a Stoat a the predator to Kiwi and their eggs. The teachers made a google drawing and put photos of animals, insects, flowers and berries then pointed arrows at what eight what and then compare it to the teachers one that they made and think of the differences between them two. I thought that I had several differences to my one and the teachers one. The arrows without the colored arrows is my doc and one of the differences that I spotted was that the teacher one had six arrows pointing at the Stoat and I only had three arrows pointing at the Stoat and one more thing I spotted was that my doc only 11 arrows and the teachers doc had 23 arrows.

Have you made a Food Web before?

Task Busters

This week in Te Ngahere we have been doing something called the Task Masters. Task Masters is a fun activity that the teachers assigned us to. The task was to draw a drawing as similar as we could to the teachers drawing. The whole point of us doing Task Masters was so the teachers could see how well we worked together. The thing we did best the first time is there was 2 people running outside but the bad thing was that they both came up with different thing witch confused me. Then the second time we did it it was easy because there was only one person who told me what to draw but the hard thing was that he wasn’t being specific.  We did the Task Masters to show the teachers how good all of our learning groups did well together and in my group was Shivam and I our group name was the Task Busters. There were two jobs the drawer or the runner I wanted to be the drawer. The runners job was to run outside and look at the drawing that the teacher drew while the drawer would wait inside getting ready to draw the thing that the runner told them to draw. The thing that I found hard was to not look at other people paper.

Have you watched the TV show called the Task Masters?

Kawa Of Care

This week in Te Ngahere we were learning about the Kawa Of Care. After we learned a little bit about Kawa Of Care we made a DLO. DLO stands for digital learning object. The teachers let us decide if we can do a comix, Powtoon, or animation. Me and my friend Calais decided to make a animation. I learned over the past few years that if you don’t listen to the Kawa Of Care and you break your chromebook and you haven't paid for insurance then you wont get your chromebook back unless you pay for it. Is the Kawa Of Care a rule at your school?

The Art Of The Year

Kia ora my name is Shay. I am a year eight student from Paihia School. We have been learning about Roy Lichtenstein and the art that he did. Roy Lichtenstein is a famous artist. His art is made with color and dots in comic books. Roy Lichtenstein was born 27 October 1923 and he died 29th September 1997. Roy Lichtenstein loved to draw explosions and he served as a infantryman during World War 2 and painted the explosions. I learnt really interesting facts about him and wrote them on this google slides. Next week we will be doing art just like him.

Have you ever read one of Roy Lichtenstein’s comics?
