The Life Of A Scientist

In Te Ngahere we have been doing Experiments for our Science Fair. My group and I decided to make our science experiment based on eyesight so we came up with the title do Different Fonts Affect Your Eyesight. I found doing this experiment very hard. We had a very short amount of time to finish our experiment we started making our boards late and we had a 2 week holiday. It took about 1 hour 40 minutes to test two people and it was the fact that we had a short amount of time to finish so it put pressure on my group and I. I learnt a lot about eyesight and memory.  For example how many words you can read in a minute a average reader can read 100 words in a minutes and a good reader can read 200 words in a minute. The hoe that I was using through Science fair was Kaha and Tu Maia because it got really frustrating so I had to pick up my hoe of Kaha and Tu Maia and keep working

Scientific Method

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the Scientific Method We were learning about the Scientific method so it can help us with our science project. We had to read a text on a site called Ducksters and find the steps in that text and write them on one of these three things Canva, Easily or Google Drawings. I went for the simplest one Google Drawing we had to try and make it creative. The thing that I found challenging about this was trying to look for pictures to go with my steps and the thing that I found easy was to find the steps.

Have you learnt about the Scientific Method?

P.E Skills

Every week on Mondays and Thursdays we have been doing P.E rotations. For P.E there was four different activates those four activates were Netball, Soccer, Touch and skills. Skills were all of those things just combined in to one. In my opinion I thought that Netball was the best because we did lots of running and lots of balancing and I love running. I learned that Netball is much harder than it looks and what I didn't know was all of the rules to Netball wich made it hard for me to play Netball but now I know all the rules so now I have a better understanding of the Netball rules.

Do you know how to play Netball?

My Sea Life

Te Ngahere has been learning how to use different tools in Google drawing and different ways to use them to make more creative DLO’s. The purpose of this challenge was to help us use google drawing confidently and efficiently to create our own images and graphics. What we did on this challenge was to try and make animals that are related to the ocean using shapes and arrows I made lots of things like Jellyfish, fish, kina a stingray and my most favorite one Patrick. I will use this to make better blog post’s in the future. The thing that I found easy about doing my DLO was trying to think about the things I could make using shapes and arrows and the thing I found hard was to make the thing I wanted to make because it was very noise in the classroom.

Have you ever made anything using shapes and arrows?

Technology

May 5th Tuesday the year sevens and eights went to Technology. The year 8’s did wood works in Mr Es class and the year 7’s were working with Whaea Dot next door they were going to be cooking. Before we did anything Mr E was seeing how well we knew the rules in the workshop one of the rules were whenever you use one of the power tool’s always wear gloves and glasses. When we finished answering the rules we were allowed to try out  the power tools and other tools. We had fun using the power tools I made a little hand held knife. When it was morning tea we all played touch and after touch we went back to class and we had to have a idea on what we were going to make, Mr E said lets make a waka we all agreed to that idea. So Mr E showed a example on how to make the waka. The waka was made out of wood we only started a little bit of the waka but we will continue with it next week.

Have you gone to technology before?

Direction failure

In Te Ngahere our teachers wanted us to see how well we listen. So our teachers gave us a piece of paper with instructions. The first instruction was to read everything carefully before doing anything. There were 23 instructions and I decided to to finish the test fast because there was only a 4 minute timer. When the 4 minute timer was up we had to stop and come to the mat when we came down to the mat our teacher was a asking us questions like did you follow the instructions properly? After the teacher said a few other questions then the teacher said in front of the hole class the teacher said we all failed because we didn't listen to the instructions properly the question was read everything carefully before doing anything the words I didn't listen to were read everything carefully before doing anything. I found it difficult to work with a 4 minute timer.

Google Hack

Te Ngahere has been learning about key words so it could help us with not only our writing but also with what we search on Google. In order for us to learn about this we had to make a copy of the teachers Smart Surfing doc and file it under cybersmart and fill out with our answers. One of them said to write a question and then write it in key words my question was what do wetas eat? An my key word question was weta diet? It was really helpful because it came up with the main thing that I was looking for which was what do weta eat except in key words. For example if you search something about trees it will pull up nearly all the things about spiders. The hardest thing for me was trying to find the correct links on Google. Did you learn anything from this post?
